Dare to do the extraordinary

God loves using ordinary people and the little things of this world to do the extraordinary. We read in Acts 4:13 (NIV) how “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” Peter and John were ordinary men who God used to do extraordinary things.

He used a simple man by the name of Gideon who was filled with doubt and fear to deliver his people out of the hands of the Midianites. Gideon was hiding in the clefts of the rock with no real hope or vision. He was a very ordinary man, but God calls him to do the extraordinary. (Judges 6)

God chose an unlikely teenage shepherd boy named David to defeat the giant Goliath, and selects him to be replace Saul as king. He picks a murderer and persecutor of Christians to become an apostle and write nearly half the new testament, his name was Saul who became Paul. These were at the very best ordinary men, but God used them to do the extraordinary.

God has a history of taking the seemingly ordinary and insignificant and using them in big and extraordinary ways. Why? Because God wants to demonstrate to the world that He is all powerful and worthy of praise.

So don’t even think you can’t do great things for God because you feel insignificant or you think you’ve failed or you don’t have any great ability. Just remember those ordinary men and women in the Bible – Rahab, Esther, Moses, Joseph, Peter, Barnabus, Timothy, etc and how God used them to accomplish amazing feats. If you allow God to, He will use your life in incredibly powerful ways!

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.   Corinthians 1:27-29
