3 Supernatural Callings

How to have a fulfilling life is found in the mission and calling God has given you.  Just as Jesus was sent into the world by the Father for a purpose, so are you sent. (John 20:21) You have a divine mission. You are unique. There is no one else exactly like you. God has given you special abilities and talents for your mission in life. Embrace God’s mission for your life and who He has made you to be. You were born an original don’t become a copy by trying to be someone else. Be the best you and fulfill your divine purpose to the glory of God!  This is how to have a fulfilling life.

How to Have a Fulfilling Life –

While every believer has a unique divine mission there are three supernatural callings every believer is assigned to fulfill within their divine purpose.  These are crucial to fulfilling our individual purpose and mission. Jesus reveals these three callings in Mathew 22:37-39. He said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Within these two great commandments there are three supernatural callings we must pursue as believers. They are the key to a complete and fulfilling life. Lets take a look at each of these 3 callings:

Do these 3 Supernatural callings

1. Love God

The first supernatural calling we have, is to have an intimate relationship with God. Think about that for a moment———–! How awesome is that? To be best friends with the creator of heaven and earth, the giver of life, almighty God! That’s what I call supernatural. We’ve been created for relationship with God. He desires to walk with you, talk with you, and spend time with you. We are called to pursue that relationship with Him, to love Him with all our heart, soul, and strength.

How do we that ? How do we love God?

      1. Put God first. In everything you do put Him first, your time, talent, and treasure. Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”
      2. Obey God. Do what He says to do. It’s that simple. John 14:23, “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
      3. Honor God. Glorify, worship and magnify the Lord in your life. 1 Corinthians 6:20, “God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.”
      4. Trust God. In every situation trust the Lord. He is faithful! Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,”
      5. Spend time with God. If you truly love someone you want to spend time with Him. James 4:8, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”

2. Love Yourself

This is often an overlooked and misunderstood calling by most believers. So, what does this mean? First, Jesus is not commanding “self-love” in fact a pursuit of self love is a dangerous path to follow. Paul warns us in 2Timothy 3:1-2, “There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy …” We are not called to be “lovers of our self”. Being a “lover of our self” moves one toward selfishness, self centeredness, and vanity. Instead Jesus teaches us to “to deny our self”. ( Matthew 16:24) We are to resist pride and humble our self. (James 4:10)

To “love yourself” means to properly value who God has made you. When you value something you guard and protect it. You look to insure and maintain its value. The key for truly loving ones self is to continually invest in your spiritual growth. It is becoming mature and complete in your faith. You will sanctify yourself which means to be set apart for His purpose. You will pursue righteousness. You will not devalue yourself by your words or actions. When you love yourself you understand that you have been made in His image. You realize life is not about you, but it’s about Him. “… no longer is it I who lives, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I have been crucified with Christ. (Galatians 2:20) Loving yourself is a product of fulfilling the first supernatural calling of “loving God”.

3. Love Others

We are called to love others as Christ loved us. (John 13:34) How does Christ love us? He loves unconditionally and sacrificially. He shows us patience, grace, and mercy. We are to do the same.

We are called to love fellow believers and those who are lost. We are called to love those who are friends and those who are enemies.

We love our brothers and sisters in Christ by encouraging them, strengthening them, comforting them, and nurturing them. (1Thessolonians 5:11) We love by standing with them and rejoicing when they rejoice and weeping with them when they weep. (Romans 12:15)

We love those who are lost by sharing the hope we have in Christ. Sharing Christ with nonbelievers is not an option. God expects us to bear fruit in fact much fruit. He challenges us to see the world as a field “white unto harvest”. We love nonbelievers by being a witness of God’s love, goodness, forgiveness, kindness, joy, peace, etc. Our love maybe expressed by a simple smile, kind word, helping hand, or sharing the hope we have. It’s time we love the world by letting our light shine.

Maybe the most difficult part of fulfilling the call to love others is that of “loving your enemies”. It is easy to love friends and those who love you, but what about those who hate and despise you? Jesus gives us specific and detailed instructions about this in Luke 6:27-36. He tells us to love are enemies by doing good to those who hate us and to bless those who do evil to us. He tells us to pray for those who harm us. That’s why this is a supernatural calling. In the natural there is no way we could fulfill this calling.

Conclusion

Each of these three supernatural callings are not separate individual callings, but they work together. Each is dependent on the other. Being able to love others is a by product of fulfilling the second supernatural calling of “loving yourself” which is a product of the first supernatural calling of “loving God”. It all begins by pursuing an intimate relationship with God, so we can grow in Him. Only those who are spiritually mature are able to fulfill these three supernatural callings. Only the spiritually mature are able to bear much fruit and love those who hate them. We are not to walk through life casually, but rather with focus. We are to be alert and mindful of the dangers and pitfalls of the world and Satan. I want to challenge you to make these three supernatural calling a top priority in your life. Pursue them each day with God’s help.
