The second coming of Jesus is the most glorious prophesied future event in the Bible. There are eight times more prophecies about the second coming of Jesus than there are about His first coming. It will be the most significant and magnificent event in all of history. No one knows for sure when He will return except the Father. (Matthew 24:36) BUT, all the signs that the Bible has said would precede His return are becoming more and more evident. They remind us every day that the second coming of Jesus is getting closer.

What Evidence is there of the Second Coming of Jesus?

2 Corinthians 13:1 tell us, “Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.” Here are three irrefutable witnesses of the return of Christ:

1. God has promised Jesus is coming again. There are over 1800 references of the return of Christ in the Old Testament and more than 300 in the New Testament.
2. Jesus Himself promised He was coming back. In John 14:1-3 He said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back…”. Jesus is coming back!
3. The angels promised the return of Jesus. Several weeks after the resurrection of Jesus as the disciples watched Him ascend into heaven angels appeared to them as said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

Make no mistake Jesus is coming again. His return is eminent. The fulfillment of history requires it. Time is marching forward toward the end according to God’s plan. The end and all of the events surrounding it are dependent on the second coming of Jesus. The evidence and proof of His return is overwhelming.

How will Jesus come back?

Jesus will physically and literally return to earth. It is not some fabricated story to be spiritualized or to be taken symbolically or allegorically. It won’t be in secret or seen by only a few. Matthew 24:27 says, “For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” Every one will see His return. We know He will return in like fashion as when He ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9-11) We also know He is going to return as a conquering King with an army from heaven and His name, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, will be written on His thigh. (Revelation 19:11-16)

Why is Jesus Coming Back?

Jesus is coming back to defeat the antichrist and end all rebellion so He can set up His kingdom here on earth to rule and reign for 1000 years and then establish the New Heaven and New Earth.

Warnings about the second coming of Jesus?

There are several warning or cautions given to us about the second coming of Jesus. First, we’re not to set a date for His return. Jesus tells us “no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” (Matthew 24:36) Second, Jesus warns believers not to be deceived by others who come in His name claiming to be Christ. (Matthew 24:4-5) Third we are warned to be stay alert and watch. “Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching.” (Luke 12:37) Fourth we are warned to stay ready. “The Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.” (1 Thessalonians 5:2)

Christians, the return of Jesus is not something to fear or dread, but something to be looking forward to with great anticipation. The second coming of Jesus is beyond doubt. Get ready and “when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28) Make sure to read the rest of the “End Time” posts.
