Learn 7 benefits of reading the Bible.  The Bible is the Word of God. “The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) There is life in the Word. It is powerful!

The Word of God is Like a Seed

Jesus compared the Word of God to a seed. (Mark 4:1-20) When you plant a seed in good ground, fertilize, and water it it grows. A seed has DNA within it that brings forth life – a flower- a tree – corn stalk, etc. each seed producing after it’s own kind.

The Word of God when planted in the soil of a persons heart and is mixed with faith it will grow. The DNA in with that seed, the Word, brings forth life – salvation, hope, peace, joy, healing, etc.

Plant the Word of God in Your Heart

When you read the Bible you are planting the Word of God like a seed in your heart. Regular Bible reading waters the seed of God’s Word. You will experience many benefits and blessings from reading the Bible. Here are 7 benefits of reading the Bible;

7 Benefits of Reading the Bible

1. Strengthens your faith.

Romans 10:17 tells us, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.Faith is what fuels our life as Christians. We are to live by faith. “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6) Reading God’s Word is key to developing and strengthening your faith.

2. Nourishes you soul.

In Matthew 4:4 Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Just like our physical body needs to take in food to nourish and sustain us physical we need to take in the Word of God to sustain and nourish us spiritually

3. Renews your mind.

Romans 12:2 instructs us, “Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God—what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.” The way God changes us our thinking is through His Word.

4. Gives you wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6, “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” The source of Godly wisdom is Jesus. “In Christ are hidden all the riches of wisdom and understanding.” (Colossians 2:3) Jesus is the Word. Therefore wisdom is found in the Word. “The explanation of your teachings gives light and brings wisdom to the ignorant. ” (Psalm 119:130)

5. Provides you direction.

Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Word is like light that shows us the way. It is like a compass showing true North revealings the direction to go. The Word is like traffic light warning us to – green go – red stop – yellow proceed with caution.

6. Produces good success in your life.

Psalms 1:2-3 tells us those who, “love the Lord’s teachings and think about them day and night. So they grow strong, like a tree planted by a stream—a tree that produces fruit when it should and has leaves that never fall. Everything they do is successful.” Your life will be made prosperous and you will have good success when you read and follow the Word of God. (Joshua 1:8)

7. Helps you know God better.

Finally but not least the greatest benefit of reading the Word of God is getting to know God more and better. You can know about God apart from His Word, but to know God personally up and close comes by spending time in His Word. The Word of God is inspired by Himself, the Bible provides the master key to knowing Him: “Scripture speaks of ‘things beyond our seeing, things beyond our hearing, things beyond our imagining, all prepared by God for those who love him’; and these are what God has revealed to us through the Spirit.
