Preach Christ

I was visiting with some pastors recently and part of the conversation was about what they were teaching and preaching in their churches. There were some really great insights and ideas discussed and exchanged. However, the one thing I noticed, most of the messages they talked about and their discussions had little or no focus on Christ.

It is important to share messages in a way that gets peoples attention. Having great illustrations, testimonies, and/or videos to help better communicate the message is powerful. There are some very gifted preachers today who do an excellent job of communicating, but often they leave out the central theme of the Bible – Christ. That would be like teaching on the discovery of America and leaving Christopher Columbus out.

I want to challenge you to always make Christ the center of what you share. No matter what truth you are teaching or preaching, there will always be some connection to Christ. Don’t miss the entire point of the Bible. Preach Christ first and foremost! As the apostle Paul said, “but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (1Cor. 1:22-24)
