7 Biblical Keys for Living the Christian Life

Living the Christian life can be challenging at times, but it’s the only life that is truly exciting and fulfilling. Living the Christian life should be easy – right? After all Jesus said, “He came to give us life and life more abundantly.” (John 10:10) Doesn’t that mean a trouble free double blessed life? Shouldn’t that mean less stress and more rest?  Why then is the Christian life not easy?

Becoming a Christian is Easy – Living the Christian Life is Not

While becoming a Christian is easy the Christian life is not easy, but it is a BETTER life! Jesus warns us to “count the cost” (Luke 14:28) before taking up our “cross to follow Him” (Luke 9:23). He calls us to a life of integrity, honesty, faithfulness, truthfulness, and more. In John 16:33 He warns us that as Christians there will be difficulties in life. 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”  These are just a few of the reasons the Christian life is not easy. However, God’s way of living is BETTER! It has great benefits for this life and offers “pleasures forevermore” in the next (1 Timothy 4:8 ; Psalm 16:11 ).

While living the Christian life can have it’s challenges it is the only life that is  truly exciting and fulfilling. Life as a Christian isn’t always fair, but God is more than fair.  He is with us through it all.  Serving the Lord is a life of great reward. So, what do we do when life is unfair and hard?

4 Things to To Do When Life is Hard

  1. Don’t blame God. God is not the one being unfair or causing the problems in your life. (read my post “Why Bad Things Happen” Click Here) The devil is a liar. Don’t allow Him to get you off course. Resist him.
  2. Run to God. You can either go through this life with God or without him. Choose to run to God when things get hard not from Him. God has the help you need. (Psalms 46:1) He is your healer, provider, deliver, strength, etc. He says, “Come to me…”
  3. Trust God. He will never leave you nor forsake you. (Dt. 31:6) He is your strength. He will deliver you, “even when you walk through the darkest valley, you will not be afraid, for He is close beside me. His rod and staff protect and comfort you.” God is aways faithful.
  4. Persevere.Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial.” (James 1:12) It takes faith and perseverance in the times of struggle and trial. If you don’t give up you will overcome. The only way you can be defeated is to quit.

Our life as a Christian is a journey of ups and downs that require time, effort, energy, work, and intense dedication. The Christian life is not always easy – no relationship is and our life as a Christian is all about having a relationship with Christ. The apostle Paul summed it up this way at the end of his life, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” (2Timothy 4:7) I challenge you to put these 4 things into practice when life gets hard and then to count it all joy (James 1:2) and to serve the Lord with gladness (Psalms 100:2)!

The greatest secret to living the Christian life is the amazing truth that – “Christ lives in you”   Paul calls it a mystery hidden for generations, but it’s now revealed to us who believe.  (Colossians 1:26-27)  Depending on and allowing Christ that’s in you to help you, strengthen you, and lead you is key to living an overcoming and victorious life.    It’s not by might nor power but by the spirit.   My prayer is for you to let Christ live BIG in you.
