Keys to Leadership

To be a great leader you need to “walk with the wise”.   If you want to lead effectively you will need Godly wisdom.  As leaders we should continually be growing in and seeking wisdom. Proverbs 13:20 gives us one of the keys to gaining wisdom, “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”

Right relationships are a key to greater wisdom. Surround yourself with people who are full of faith, who encourage you, challenge you to be your best, hold you accountable, help develop you, and stretch you.   Be careful who you spend time with. Paul tells us “Do not be misled bad company corrupts good character.” (1Corinthians 15:33).

Select Friends Carefully

Select your friends wisely because your choice of friends will impact your life. Choose those who you take counsel from even more wisely, if you want to be a great leader.   Strong leaders are those who seek out wise counsel in order to make critical decisions that make for the best results.  Foolish leaders assume they can do it all on their own. Proverbs 12:26 says, “The righteous choose their friends carefully“.

Who is a Wise Friend

What qualifies as a wise person?  A “wise” person is one that lives his life according to God’s ways.  The “wise” are people of character and integrity.  They are spiritually mature and competent. When you allow people of wisdom into your life you become wise. Make sure to look for these characteristic in the people you surround yourself with.

Wise friends will provide wise counsel, even if it’s not a popular view and they will provide constructive advice. Wise friends will not be overly impressed with you, but will respect and honor your position of leadership.  They want what’s best for you and the organization that you lead.  Guard against surrounding yourself with only “yes’ people.   Great leaders encourage and desire input even if it is an opposing view.

Walk With the Wise – be a great leader

You need Godly wisdom to be an effective leader.  Make up your mind to befriend the “wise”.   “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”   “Walk with the wise and you will be wise.”  Right relationships is a key to wisdom an wisdom is a key to great leadership.
