What is God’s top priority? Make sure it is first in your life?

What is God’s Top Priority?

What is God’s top priority?  Is it faith, love, hope, salvation, generosity…? All of these are important, in fact there are several things that are important to God, but in Jesus’ first sermon He clearly reveals what God’s top priority is.

what is god's top priorityIt’s the Kingdom of God

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  The “Kingdom” is God’s top priority. The Bible is all about the King and the Kingdom.  The Kingdom of God is where God rules.  When He created man and put them on earth it was to expand His kingdom, His rulership, and His will on earth.

Your Kingdom Come Your Will be Done

This is what Jesus prayed in Matthew 6:10, “let your kingdom come and your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  God wants His kingdom to come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This was and is the top priority of God.

God Gave Man Dominion

In the beginning God created man and gave him “dominion” in all the earth to help accomplish His top priority.  (Genesis 1:28) However, Satan took that dominion from man through his deception of Adam and Eve. (Genesis 3)   As a result a curse came upon the earth and the human race.

Satan Stole Man’s Dominion

Man was separated from God.  Death, sickness, guilt and condemnation became the condition and plight of man.  Man lost his authority and dominion.  He lost the kingdom.  It looked like the kingdom of God coming to earth wasn’t going to happen.  Everything looked hopeless. BUT – God had a plan to restore man back to Him and for man to regain his place of authority and for the kingdom of heaven to come on the earth.

God’s Plan of Redemption

God’s plan of redemption was Jesus – the Savior of the world – Redeemer – King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  The Bible from Genesis to Revelation is about Jesus and God’s plan of redemption.  The Bible is not a book about establishing a religion, but rather it’s about the establishment of His kingdom.  It is all about the King and His kingdom.

Jesus Came to Reestablish God’s Top Priority

God made it very clear from the beginning that His priority was the kingdom.  Jesus came to the earth to reestablish God’s number one priority.  Everything Jesus said and did—His prayers, teachings, healings, and miracles—was focused on the kingdom, not a religion. It was His top priority.

Jesus Preached and Taught the Kingdom

Jesus shared and explained that the only solution for the loss condition of man was the Kingdom of Heaven.  The first things Jesus preached and taught revealed how the Kingdom was the top priority.  Jesus preached, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 4:17).  He declared, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3).

Our Top Priority

Seeking the Kingdom of God needs to be our top priority! God’s number-one priority for mankind is that we discover, understand, and enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Help Others Understand the Kingdom

As followers of Christ we are now citizens of the kingdom of heaven. (Philippians 3:20) Our citizenship is no longer of this world.  We are foreigners in this land called earth.  We are now to be ambassadors for the king and kingdom. (2Corinthians 5:20).

We are to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom and help build the kingdom of God. Our priority is not to spread the Christian religion, but rather to proclaim the message and concepts of the King and Kingdom of God.  We need to help others understand the Kingdom.   This is the answer to what’s missing in the life of every person and what the world needs.

Teaching on the Kingdom

Unfortunately, most Christians do not understand the kingdom.  The kingdom of God is not a priority in their life.  Jesus is the door to the kingdom.  He is the only way into the kingdom.  We must know the king and understand the keys and principles of the kingdom –  how it functions, and how to enjoy the benefits, promises, and privilege of the kingdom now.
