This month we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ – Savior of the world. As Christians we believe Jesus is the Messiah – the Son of God – the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. However, there are many who reject Jesus as God. They believe Jesus was a good or a great man, some even believe He was a wise prophet, but do not believe He is the Son of God.

Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

The important question is, Who do you believe Jesus is?

How you answer that question has great consequences. Jesus asked His disciples this very question in Matthew 19:15, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered the question in verse 16 he said, “You are the messiah...” Jesus didn’t correct Peter rather He commends him for giving the correct answer. He said, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.”

From that moment on, the world has wrestled with that statement. It was Jesus’ claim to be God that caused the religious people to bring charges of “blasphemy” against Him and ultimately His crucifixion. (though this was all part of God’s divine plan for mans redemption)

The Church Preached Jesus as Messiah-Lord-Savior from the beginning

After the resurrection of Jesus the New Testament church began preaching Christ was the messiah – Lord and Savior of the world. Acts 2:26, “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”

Throughout history to this very day many debate the deity of Christ. Is Jesus God? Is He messiah? Is He Lord and Savior? Is there absolute proof that Jesus is God?

Absolute Proof Jesus is God

Yes there is! It is the prophecies of the Bible. Jesus fulfilled over 300 old testament prophecies, including the messiah would be born of a virgin. He would to be born in Bethlehem, be from the tribe of Judah, and come out of Egypt. He would be sold for 30 pieces of silver, crucified with thieves, buried in a borrowed tomb, and ascend into heaven. Jesus fulfilled them all.

Isaiah 53

The profit Isaiah 700 years before the death of Jesus prophesied that the Messiah would suffer for the sins of others:

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. foretold of of the coming Below is a list of 300 prophesies by book with the scripture reference and then the Bible verse where Jesus fulfilled the prophesy.” Isaiah 53:4-6

Jesus is God – the Messiah

The fact that Jesus fulfilled all this prophecy alone is amazing – but the fact that He fulfilled over 300 prophecies is miraculous. The only way it could happen is if, in fact Jesus was the messiah. No one can deny this evidence and proof. So, the doubters try and undermined or refute the undeniable proof by saying Jesus connived to fulfill the prophecies to try and substantiate His claim of being the messiah.

The problem with this line of thinking is that Jesus had no control over most of the prophecies – where He was born, how He would be born, when or how He would die, the tribe or linage He would come from and the list goes on.

So, this Christmas celebrate the birth of Jesus with great zeal and joy. Joy to the world the Lord is Come! Yes there is absolute, undeniable, and irrefutable proof Jesus is the messiah.
