Freedom Under Attack – understand how and what to do
FREEDOM UNDER ATTACK
The United States of America celebrates Independence Day on July 4th. As a nation, we enjoy liberty and freedom because of our founding fathers’ religious convictions and their dedication to establishing a government “of the people, by the people and for the people.” Unfortunately, those liberties and freedoms are under attack.
Quotes from American Forefathers
It would do us well to remember the words of several of our forefathers, Thomas Jefferson, “The reason that Christianity is the best friend of government is because Christianity is the only religion in the world that deals with the heart.” Patrick Henry, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!” John Adams, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people…it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Abraham Lincoln, “My concern is not whether God is on our side. My great concern is to be on God’s side.” Benjamin Franklin, “He who shall introduce into public affairs the principles of Christianity will change the face of the world.”
Tyranny, Terrorism, Threats…
America is blessed to enjoy the greatest freedoms and liberties in all the world because of its founding principles, principles based on the Word of God. May we never forget or worse never know the dedication of our forefathers and the servicemen and women who have served to keep America free. We must and need to continue to pray for our nation and leaders. With our freedom comes responsibility and we should never take for granted what we have and enjoy. We must continue to stand for and protect our freedoms. We should never allow tyranny, terrorism, or any type of threat to intimidate us to the point of sacrificing or surrendering any of our freedoms!
Greater Freedom in Christ
There is even greater liberty and freedom available for all. That freedom is found in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:17 tells us, “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” The great news is every person, no matter where they live can experience the freedom that comes through faith in Christ.
Under Attack
The bad news is just like our freedoms in America are under attack, your freedom and liberty in Christ are under attack. The same terrorist who is behind the attacks on America’s freedom is attacking your liberty in Christ. We must not be ignorant of the devil’s devices. (2Corinthians 2:11) We are to be alert and resist the lies and deception of the enemy. (1Peter 5:8-9) What do we do? We must resist the devil. When we do he must flee and all his deceptive evil work.
Responsibilities of Freedom
Our liberty in Christ is priceless and when used correctly it is an ever-flowing source of spiritual joy and power. We are able to receive that freedom and liberty because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. His death and resurrection have set us free. However, with that freedom in Christ comes responsibility. Paul tells us in Galatians 5:1, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” Our liberty is not to be used to feed the desires of our flesh or to give license to Godlessness without consequences. Instead, it empowers us to be able to obey God freely and be led by His Spirit.
Let Us Stand Firm
As believers, we have been blessed with great privileges and freedoms. We can freely approach the Throne of Grace in times of need. We are free from the laws of sin and death. We experience liberty in the presence of the Holy Spirit. We are independent from the world and the ways of the world. “He Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” Let us stand firm without wavering. Remember our fight us not against people, but against the spiritual forces of darkness! (Ephesians 6:12-13)
I encourage you to examine your life to see if you truly are free or if you have allowed the traps of the enemy or cares of the world to lead you back into a path of bondage. It is never too late to turn around. Your Father is waiting with arms open wide He is ready to help liberate you and set you free. Jesus said, “His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.” Matthew 11:30
We have true freedom and liberty in Christ!
