How to get saved? The gift of eternal life in heaven …
How to Get Saved
How to get saved is the most important question any person who is alive can ask. In the minds of most people this question is about eternal life and going to heaven. Most every one wants to know how to make it to heaven? Through out history there have been many different ideas, philosophies, and religions that all purport to know the answer, but there is only one correct answer.
Only One Way to be Saved
The only way a person can be saved – to have eternal life and go to heaven – is through Jesus. Jesus is the only way. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) This bothers many people. They think it is being narrowed minded and intolerant to say Jesus is the only way to be saved. However, to the contrary to be saved by Jesus is open to anyone, no one is excluded. “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) This is a very inclusive and open invitation. The evidence of this truth, that Jesus is the only way, is in Jesus himself. You either believe Jesus is who He said is He is or you rejected it. There is no middle ground.
Saved – Being Born Again
Jesus calls what we call being saved as “being born again”. He told Nicodemus: “. . . Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” ( John. 3:3 ). The new birth is not a natural birth, but a spiritual birth. (John 3:5) Your spirit becomes new, when you’re born again. You become a “new creation” spiritually. (2 Corinthians 5:17) It is a true miracle. It is a work of the Holy Spirit. So, initially when we talk about being saved we are talking about being born again. This is important because the word “saved” has other implications. (Salvation has other aspects of maturing and growing that goes beyond being born again, which we will expand a little on at the end.) How to get saved – is how you become born again.
Citizen of Heaven Now
Once you experience the “new birth” you instantly become part of the family of God, you are a child of God, and God is your Father (Galatians 3:26 ). You are now a citizen of heaven forever (Philippians 3:20) – you have eternal life with God. (John 3:16) However, you remain here on earth in this world as a representative (ambassador) of the Kingdom of Heaven. (2Corinthians 5:20) You are a new creation spiritually, but you still live in the flesh while in this world. So, how do you become born again?
How to be Born Again (saved)
The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10:9-10, “ If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” So, very simply, for a person to become born again they must believe in their heart that Jesus is truly God (CLICK HERE to read how to know Jesus is really God) and confess Him to be your Lord and Savior. This is how to get saved – born again. You don’t have to do anything else or meet any other qualifications
Salvation is a Gift
Salvation is a gift from God. You can not earn it, deserve it, or buy it. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Religion always wants to add something to Jesus, but your works no matter how great or sacrificial will never be enough to deserve salvation – to be born again. This gift is only received by believing in the work that Jesus did for you not your works. How do you get saved – receive by faith the gift of eternal life.
Justified and Made Righteous
The moment you are born again the Holy Spirit baptizes you into the body of Christ. You are now justified by faith ( just as if you never sinned, Romans 5:1), totally forgiven of every and all sins, and you are declared righteous. (right with God) 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” This happens to you not because you have done anything, but because you understand Jesus did it for you and you realize you need Jesus. That’s it – that’s how to get saved – born again – nothing more – nothing less!
God Continues to Work in You
However, just because you are born again – a child of God, justified, and righteous – does not mean all of sudden you are now perfect. God by the Holy Spirit continues to help you grow. Salvation is an on going process. That’s what I meant earlier when I said salvation has other aspects. Being born again is a one time forever experience. You can be assured of your salvation in the Lord.
However, as you begin living your new life as a follower of Christ you will begin to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12;2) We will continually be conformed to the image of Christ. This is part of being saved. James 1:12 tells us to, “receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.” James is not talking about getting saved as in being born again, but is talking about the transformation that must continue to take place in us as God continues to help us grow and become more like Christ.
Receive Jesus and Let Jesus Finish the Good Work He has Begun in You
If you have never received Christ as Lord and Savior of your life I invite you to receive Him now. It is by faith through Christ. It is a gift. You just have to receive it. You receive it by believing and confessing Jesus. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name” ( John. 1:12 ). Why not receive Jesus today? I have a free book I’ve written for you, “What’s Next?”. It will help guide you with your next steps as a follower of Christ. Just CLICK HERE – to download it.
If you have already received Christ then know He is still working in you to do His good and perfect will. “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6) God is faithful. He is the potter and we are the clay.
