How to receive the Promises of God – 4 keys to receiving
How Do You Receive the Promises of God?
How to receive the promises of God? There are literally thousands of promises in the Bible that are just waiting to be received and enjoyed. Promises that provide everything you need in this life. (2Peter 1:3-4) Whatever your particular need may be, you will find promises in the Bible related to it. God has promised to;
- To meet all your needs (Phil. 4:13);
- To protect you (Ps. 91); To help you (Is. 41:10);
- To forgive you and heal you (Ps. 103:2-3);
- To never leave you (Heb. 13:5);
- and much more.
But…, how do you receive those promises? Are the promises for you or for only a special few? Today we are going to answer those questions and share 4 keys to possessing the promises of God.
God Keeps His Promises
The promises of God are for everyone, but not everyone possesses them. Why? The problem is not God. “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19)” God is faithful. In fact, He has already done everything that needs to be done for the provision of all of His promises. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” (2Corinthians 1:20) God keeps His promises. However, they have to be received.
You Have to Possess the Promises
Here’s the deal. The reason many people do not enjoy the promises of God is because they have not possessed them. You have to personally take possession of the promises. In the Old Testament God gave the Israelites the promised land, but many of them never possessed the promised land. In Joshua 1 it says God commanded them to go in and possess the land, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you.” (vs.3) Even though God had promised them the land they had to tread upon it to possess it. If you don’t “tread” upon the promises that God has given you, you won’t possess them and enjoy them.
4 Keys to Possessing God’s Promises
First you have to know what the promises are.
You can’t believe to receive anything until you know what it is and that it belongs to you. “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6) There are thousands upon thousands of people who struggle and miss out on God’s provision and blessing because they do not know God has promised it to them.
Don’t miss God’s promises because you don’t take time to pray, read, and meditate upon God’s Word. When you study the Word of God the Holy Spirit will teach you and reveal to you each and every promise. God has given them to you.
Second, you must have faith for the promise.
Once you know what the promise is you have to possess it. The way to possess the promises of God is through faith. Faith is how we receive everything God has provided for us. Even the promise of salvation is received through faith. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith.” (Ephesians 2:8) Faith comes by “hearing the Word of God”. (Romans 10:17)
Third, you have to put your faith into action.
Faith without works is dead. You can read and study God’s Word and know what the promises are, but until you activate your faith by believing it in your heart and then confessing it with your mouth you will not receive the promises. “It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak,” (2Cor. 4:13) Faith requires believing in the heart and declaring it with your mouth.
Your confession is what unlocks the power of faith in your life. I can’t stress enough how critical this is for you to possess the promises of God. Job 22:2 says, “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so, light will shine on your ways.”
Fourth, don’t grow weary – standing on the promises.
What if after you find God’s promise in His Word, you read and hear it, then believe it in your heart, and then confess it with your mouth and then it doesn’t look like the promise has manifested in your life? You have a choice to make. Either you will let doubt and unbelief come in and rob you of the promises or you need to choose to continue to believe by praising and thanking the Lord. “and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then…” (Ephesians 6:13:14) Don’t give up. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
Go For It
You will see the promise come to pass if you do not give up. Everything is possible with God. Find the promise in God’s word, release your faith for it, and don’t let go! When you trust God and lean on Him instead of your own understanding and desires He is faithful and you WILL receive the promises He has for you. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” (2 Cor. 1:20)
