Unsearchable Riches of Christ – what are they?
THE UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF CHRIST – what are they?
The unsearchable riches of Christ is a mystery that we find in Ephesians 3:6-8, “And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. 7 By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News. 8 Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless (unsearchable, incomprehensible, immeasurable) riches (treasures) available to them in Christ.” (NLT)
This Truth is a Mystery
This revelation of the unsearchable riches of Christ is a truth that was hidden in the mind of God. You can search the Old Testament and all the prophecies, but you will not find a mention of it until it is revealed to the Apostle Paul. Through Paul, God unlocks the good news of the cross and discloses all of the riches, provisions, blessings, and more that had been kept hidden.
These Riches are for Both Jew and Gentile
Part of the mystery Paul unveils here is that both Gentiles and Jews, who have put their faith in Christ, share equally in all of these treasures. All of the promises God made to Abraham belong to the Gentiles through Christ. “That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:14)
The Treasure Includes Christ Himself
The “unsearchable riches of Christ” are not simply the gifts or benefits that come from our position in Him, but it is Christ Himself. In the moment of salvation, we are joined in an eternal union to Christ in Heaven and the all-sufficiency of His work on the cross. Christ’s life became our life. His victory became our victory. Christ’s riches became our riches. His glory became our glory.
What does Unsearchable Mean?
“Unsearchable” does not mean “unable to be discovered or to be grasped.” In Greek, the word is anexichniastos, which means unable to track or unable to map. In other words, the treasures that belong to us as believers are so immense, vast, and numerous we are unable to map them or list them all. It also doesn’t say that His riches are unknowable. You can know them. They are found in the Bible.

- His grace. The grace of God is limitless and powerful. No matter what we need (Phil 4:19) God’s grace is sufficient to supply that need (2 Cor 12:9-10).
